Perfection's Impasse
Perfection's Impasse (commonly referred to as P.I.) is a character-driven story about the pursuit of flawlessness and losing one's own self in the process, written by D.C.
The plot follows four deeply flawed personalities in a contemporary academic setting and an unspecified temperate-climate country.
With this realistic setup, P.I. focuses on themes related to interpretation, identity, understanding, and communication.
D.C. describes the project as "very, very weird," which means that you, as the reader, should never expect anything phenomenal from this.
The imperfect nature of Perfection's Impasse is fully intentional.

Main cast
Tara
As the protagonist and narrator of P.I., Tara is a paranoid pattern seeker who resents chaos but often ends up creating it anyway. Her goal is to find something real in the world and have undeniable proof of it, though she isn't even sure what "real" means. When there seems to be no meaning, she'll put together her own one with perfectly aligned rocks and empty sticky notes. Suddenly, her bedroom walls are a string of theories no one else understands.
Ezra
The antagonist, Ezra, is a performative perfectionist who puts mirrors where they don't belong. To her, the reality is miserable, ugly, and wrong, which drives her to pull the world out of it all. She lives for an audience that isn't there, so scared of being ordinary that she fixes things by actively ruining them for everyone else. If you throw a handful of stars, glass shards, and ribbon into a blender, what you get is her aesthetic.
Simona
The first catalyst of P.I., Simona, is an emotionally detached human-behavior enthusiast who struggles with identity. She wants to fully understand people and build her own self out of the data she gathers. Social norms don't matter to her, so she pushes boundaries (sometimes to the point of causing discomfort to others) and then documents everything in her private diary.
Ivy
The second catalyst of P.I., Ivy, is an erratic artist who won't say a word, so she throws her feelings at people in the form of paper. Her mind is two-sided like a coin. All or nothing, no "maybe." One moment she sees you as a perfect god, the next she disappears and won't tell you why. She keeps trying to force things to stay forever, effectively disturbing the stability she craves.

Chapter 1
After
spending the whole night awake, Tara cleans up the pinboard in her bedroom and
puts a photo of Ezra in the center. Tara believes that Ezra is somehow connected to
something Tara doesn’t clearly explain, but it’s morning now, so Tara drags
herself through the house and toward the school with the camera hanging from
her shoulder acting as the sole reminder of why she’s even awake. Tara spots
Ezra in the crowd of students and snaps a single picture.
